19 August 2026: Marc Crehan, reader of May’s Climate Action Frodsham newsletter entered the Green Expo 2026 photo competition in the category “The natural world’s resilience: City, Countryside and Coastlines, Coping, despite the challenges.” The photo was inspired by the CAF walk to Frodsham Marshes on 25th April as part of the Frodsham Festival of Walks and shows two cormorants taking advantage of a man-made structure. This photo won 1st prize and was exhibited in the cloisters of Chester Cathedral along with other winning photos.

19 August 2026: After 2 years of construction, Sutton Weaver swing bridge opened to road traffic on the morning of Sunday 6 June 1926 when the bridge it replaced, dating from 1872, was removed and the approach roads re-aligned. All the work was carried out under the supervision of John Arthur Saner, Engineer and General Manager of the Weaver Navigation. Saner, who served from 1887 to 1934 had designed the new bridge. Joseph Park of Northwich supplied the steelwork and Metropolitan Vickers of Trafford Park supplied the electric motors. After recent repairs, it is hoped the bridge will serve for another 100 years!
19 August 2026: A new High Sheriff of Cheshire has been appointed at a ceremony at Norton Priory Museum and Gardens. Lynn Pegler is a PR, media, communications specialist, Chair of Norton Priory trustees, board member of Halton Chamber of Commerce and former festival manager of seven Weaver Words Literature Festivals in Frodsham.
19 August 2026: When Reverend Elaine Atack retired as vicar, she left a parish that has and will continue to change. There was a big turnout for her last service on 31st May with presentations of gifts and cake. The flower team produced beautiful displays and the bell ringers rang a special peal.
19 August 2026: Frodsham Primary Academy turned silver into gold at this year’s annual Cheshire Young Carers Awards. The award celebrates the school’s commitment to supporting pupils who are young carers, ensuring they feel seen, supported, and empowered every day. It is the third year running that the school has been recognised in the awards. Last year they received a silver award.
